Prof. Dr. ret. Winfried Eberhard

Winfried Eberhard (born 1941) received his doctorate from the Ruhr University Bochum in 1974 and was habilitated in medieval history in 1982 with a study on Bohemian history. He taught at the universities of Bochum, Siegen, Hanover and Halle/Saale. From 1992 to 1995, he headed the research focus »History and Culture of East Central Europe« in Berlin. From 1996 to 1999, he was the founding director and then, until 2007, the director of the Centre for History and Culture of East Central Europe (GWZO) as well as Professor of Central and Eastern European History at the University of Leipzig. His research focuses include the history of the late Middle Ages and the Reformation, particularly in Bohemia; estates-based constitutions; and confessionalisation and tolerance.
