About
Jan Wachter was born in Kaiserslautern. From 2016 to 2017, he completed his voluntary service program in Krakow. Between 2017 and 2024, he studied International Economics and European Studies as well as Slavic Studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Leipzig. During this time, he studied abroad at the Lomonosov State University in Moscow and the Masaryk University in Brno.
From September to December 2024, he worked as a researcher in the department »Entanglements and Globalisation« at the GWZO, with funding from Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1199. Since October 2025, Jan Wachter has been a scholarship holder of the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany pursuing his doctoral disseration in the department »Entanglements and Globalisation«.

Energy Policy in Czechia and Slovakia
This project examines the processes of energy transformation in Czechia and Slovakia from the 1960s to 2004. It focuses on the trade-offs between energy security, economic competitiveness, and environmental objectives.
