Germanisation with the help of cinema? Feature films in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.
The National Socialist occupation policy in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia aimed at the resettlement and assimilation of the majority Czech population. As in the »Altreich« and other occupied territories in Central and Eastern Europe, the regime employed cultural tools to advance its Germanisation agenda and to promote National Socialist ideology among the occupied population. Within this framework, the dissertation project focuses on the role of cinema in the »Reichsprotektorat«. It explores whether—and if so, by what means and strategies—both German and Czech films were utilized in support of the Germanisation policy.
