Decolonising Czech Feminisms

While forms of feminist knowledge and ways of knowing have been othered and devalued by the patriarchy, hierarchies of knowledge tend to emerge within the movement itself. This research aims to investigate these hierarchies from a decolonial perspective and find collective ways to address them.

Decolonizing Czech Feminisms: Exploring Collective Paths towards Epistemic Justice
Even though Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic never possessed official oversea colonies, and are therefore often excluded from traditional narratives on colonisation, they historically participated in – and continued to benefit from – the Western colonial project. As a result, the issue of epistemic (in)justice seems to be mostly overlooked in the Czech feminist movement and, by extension, in Czech society. By centering decolonial thought and epistemologies of marginalised groups, such as racialised women, disabled people, migrants or queer/trans* communities, this research aims to critically examine epistemic hierarchies within the Czech feminist movement, reflect on them and, ultimately, enable research participants to find new ways to address them. A participatory research design will be developed to illuminate how various forms of feminist knowledge are produced and valued in the Czech context, focusing on a specific Facebook group which serves as a key site of mainstream feminist discourses.
